Embrace the Next Chapter:

A Meaningful Retirement Self-Assessment.

Welcome and Thank you for participating in the "Embrace the Next Chapter: A Meaningful Retirement Self-Assessment. This self-assessment is designed to help you reflect on various aspects of your life as you approach retirement and help you identify areas where you might wish to focus on finding greater meaning, purpose, and joy.

OVERALL HEALTH (MENTAL & PHYSICAL)

Your health, both mental and physical, plays a foundational role in how you experience retirement. Feeling good physically can open the door to activities and social connections, while mental well-being helps you maintain a positive outlook and resilience.

SECTION 2: SENSE OF VALUE & PURPOSE

A strong sense of purpose can propel you forward, especially after leaving a structured work environment. Redefining what “value” looks like in retirement can include volunteer work, mentorship, personal projects, or new life goals.

SECTION 3: SOCIAL CONNECTIONS

Maintaining a network of friends, family, and community is crucial for both emotional and physical health. Staying connected often helps ward off feelings of loneliness and keeps life meaningful and engaging.

SECTION 4: HOBBIES & ACTIVITIES

Hobbies and leisure pursuits in retirement help you stay engaged and excited about each new day. Whether it’s learning something new or enjoying a lifelong passion, these activities contribute greatly to overall well-being.

SECTION 5: HAPPINESS & FULFILLMENT

Happiness and fulfillment are subjective and can fluctuate over time. Reflecting on your overall life satisfaction helps you see where you might need a shift or additional support.

SECTION 6: FINANCIAL SECURITY

While not the sole determinant of happiness, financial security can significantly influence stress levels and your ability to pursue fulfilling activities. This section focuses on your sense of confidence around finances, not the specific details.

SECTION 7: SPIRITUAL WELL-BEING

For many, spirituality or a sense of connection to something larger than themselves can bring comfort, purpose, and community. “Spiritual well-being” can mean religion, nature, meditation, or any personal practice that provides meaning.

SECTION 8: CAREGIVING RESPONSIBILITIES

Many retirees find themselves caring for grandchildren, aging parents, or other loved ones. Balancing caregiving with personal needs can significantly impact overall wellness.

SECTION 9: REVIEW & SCORING

Now that you’ve evaluated each area of retirement life, let’s bring it all together. Summing your scores across all sections can provide a quick snapshot of your satisfaction and well-being. However, remember that your narrative responses and personal reflections are just as important, often more so in guiding you toward a fulfilling retirement.

Interpretation (Example only—feel free to adjust ranges)

  • 32–64 points: You may be facing multiple challenges or transitions. Consider focusing on one or two key areas of improvement first—perhaps social connections or a clearer sense of purpose.

  • 65–96 points: You have some areas of strength and other areas that could use more attention. Reflect on which aspects matter most to you and explore resources that can help.

  • 97–128 points: You’re likely doing reasonably well in several areas. Identify the sections where you scored lower to see if small changes could enhance your fulfillment.

  • 129–160 points: You appear to have a strong foundation across many dimensions of retirement. Keep up the great work, and don’t hesitate to support others in their journeys!

SECTION 10: NEXT STEPS & FOLLOW-UP

Your survey responses are an excellent starting point for a deeper exploration of what retirement can look like for you. Remember: a fulfilling retirement is a journey, and it may require trying new things, seeking resources, or reaching out for support.
